My (and my wife's too) main interests would be IPSC/USPSA rifle and pistol disciplines. Boulder property values are generally higher than the surrounding areas due to limitations on new home building. Longmont (about 7 miles North of Boulder) has a large number of homes for sale so prices are considerably lower than Boulder. The ecouspsa web site that Roger told you about is a great reference, most matches are within 1.5 hours of Boulder/Longmont and you can shoot every weekend (weather permitting).
