Revolver Hard chrome

Is it a good idea to hard chrome internals on a smith revolver? Will it make the action a bit easier/smoother?

Hard-chroming internals is fine, but the parts should be smooth before the chrome job is done, otherwise you're just putting a hard skin over rough surfaces.

Don't I recall Jerry Miculek, in that old "Trigger Job" video saying that in stainless Smiths, the action parts were hard-chromed, and that that was an advantage 6XX guns had over blue ones?

I do not recall that on the video, but the forged trigger and MIM hammer on the 625 JM are chromed. I do recall him advocating buffing the parts smooth.

I cannot speak for an aftermarket chrome job, but the factory chrome flaked off at the sear on my JM hammer and left a rough spot on this critical place. I sent it back to the factory with a note explaining this and requesting a non-chromed hammer and they complied. I know of others that had this happen. Apparently chrome has a hard time with MIM parts.

Again, working with a raggedy old memory, but I'm thinking those flaking parts are chromed, as opposed to hard chromed, a different process that, if I can dredge it up right, isn't subject to flaking.

I'm prepared to be educated.
