Remakes of Classic Movies

OK, here is my theory on remaking a classic movie...

1. There has to be a dang good reason to remake a classic.

2. New "special effects" do not constituent a good reason.

3. If the only thing it has in common with the original is the title, it's not a remake so rename it.

4. Last but not least, it must be as good or better than the original!

I saw a preview of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" yesterday. It fits none of the above criteria.

+1 and more

It gripes me too, but I really get frosted when they colorize an original B&W classic (ala, Ted Turner).

Ditto, I would rather watch the original in B&W than some of the enhanced tripe that Turner has murdered.
