New "special effects" do not constituent a good reason. 3. If the only thing it has in common with the original is the title, it's not a remake so rename it. 4. Last but not least, it must be as good or better than the original! I saw a preview of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" yesterday. It fits none of the above criteria. It fits none of the above criteria. +1 and more It gripes me too, but I really get frosted when they colorize an original B&W classic (ala, Ted Turner).
