sgtis108
I recently bought a slide from a guy, and now I'm wondering, is it stainless or hard chrome. It is an STI slide. How can I tell? I could ask the guy but I thought if I posted this question I might learn something. Thanks
PINMAN44
there is some kind of technique with a magnet stainless will be marked 416 most of the time in the slide on the flat portion right underneath the firing pin. a magnet will not stick to stainless a magnet will stick to chrome because of all the layers hope this helps a little sir Robby
z40acp
A magnet will stick to 416 stainless that is used for guns.
sgtis108
I tried the magnet trick before I posted. It stuck to the slide, and my stainless SV and my stainless S&W revolver. So I didn't get results that way.
z40acp
You could go to a spot in the slide that you can't see and grind a little. Apply cold blueing to that area and if it is stainless it won't blue.
