You should consider Universal or TiteGroup, etc.. Clays does pretty well at 1.180ish OAL and up, preferably 1.2 range. Without enough case volume, Clays tends to pressure spike relative to those other powders.
Harmon
I know all the warnings on clays, but that load is actually a reduced load from a reputed reloading manual. (lyman Pistol and revolver handbook) they go up to 4.0 grains at SHORTER oal. harmon
dfwmiket
How much is the software? Maybe we can split the cost? -Mike

Harmon
i had one guy reply via PM and help me out. my loads are running 50 fps faster than quickload, but i figure thats acceptable primers are still round 3.7 grains clays is 950 fps out of my KKM 6 inch barrel WSP 180 grain lyman cast bullet intended for the 38-40 revolver cast from wheelweights and shot unsized(.402-.403") bullet is lubricated with lee liquid alox zero leading and low smoke. btw this is the softest major load ive ever shot. almost minor in my 5 inch Kart barreled STI, and within 5 fps of the glock24 in my glock 22 open gun. best thing about it is that its incredibly cheap to shoot. Dave Marques
Harmon: You must have a very tight gun! My MINOR load is 3.0 at 1.125 with a jacket 180 in a G35. (~132PF) In LTD (thru a Para) I am 1.180 and 4.5 grains to make a 169 PF. At Major I get pressure signs in the primers, but I have been shooting it since the PF went down to 165 without any problems. I agree ........It IS the s-o-f-t-e-s-t load out there for major LTD Good Luck! Dave M

bbbean
yeah, it seems to be a fast barrelbut its six inches long im loading to 1.135 oal and im using lead bullets Harmon Glad to see this thread. I'm in the process of working up a Clays/180 major load for my 6" Limited gun. First load was 3.0@1.125, which made a great minor load with a PF of 140. Read up a little more and adjusted the OAL out to 1.2 for the 2nd run and 3.2 gave me a PF of 122! Cycled the slide enough to cock the hammer but didn't even begin to eject. Obviously, I've got a ways to go, but its nice to see someone else's numbers. We'll see what 3.4 does tomorrow.
mr renwick
Just out of curiosity Where can you find the software to calculate pressure?
