Use Of Police Duty Gear

combat effective

I don't see why not.

They're allowed on duty gear on the front of the belt on the other side, since that's where most cops wear them. In addition, you gain no competitive advnatage by doing it that way. In fact, I would say you're putting yourself at a disadvantage in terms of speed, but you obviously have a good reason for wearing it that way.

With a couple of exceptions everyone in my department carries them that way. It's more comfortable when riding in the car than vertical in the front on the support side. I can also get to them faster that way than with them virtical in front.

It's not quite as fast as an open topped carrier on the support side hip line, but we can't very well use open tops on duty that well. The mags would have a tendency to fly wout when running and such. The reason for having them in the front is that the radio and flashlight are usually on your support side hip line.

I read in the rules that a full time officer can use his/her duty gear in IDPA as long as all retention devices are used.  I am a full time officer.  However, I carry my magazine horizontally on my strong side.  Would this be allowed?

That is permitted.
