Over the years I have had a truck load of both. For guns that will see hard use I prefer new models. They are just stronger guns. The old models are easier to work and their actions are smoother most of the time BUT like I said the new models are stonger.

New models cans be tuned and cleaned up to be as good or better than old models.

A gunsmith that knows what he is doing with Ruger SAs (and SASS has made them more popular) can smooth out a New Model Blackhawk very nicely. I have a pair of the original Vaqueros that have smooth hammer pulls and triggers like glass breaking.
