Moonclips vs. Speedloaders

I am really new to wheel guns and am wanting to shoot a 4" 686 but am not sure what is best. What is the recomendation from those of you who are past the beginner stage.... moonclips or speedloaders for a Model 686. I have played with a 625 with moonclips and it seems to work really well with the stubby .45 but with the longer .38/.357 does the rounds move around a lot in moonclips ?

It all depends. What game are you going to shoot?

If ICORE and USPSA, I recommend moonclips. Yes, the longer cartridges will flop a bit, and it will not be as fast as a 625. However, if you shoot minor power factor and load 38 short colt to 9mm specs with a 125 grain bullet, your reloads will be quite fast. You have to be carefull of your bullet selection, I made the mistake of buying a whole bunch of 125 grain JHP when I first started, I still have them. The nose of the bullets was slowing dowm my reloads.

The floppines can be addressed with the proper clips and proper brass.

If you are going to shoot IDPA, I recommend speed loaders because then you only have to make minor. If you use moonclips in IDPA, you must make major. I would recommend comp II, comp III or jetloaders. Of course, you can make major easily with 158 grain bullets and it will shoot pretty softly.

Of course you can have it converted for moonclips and still shoot with speed loaders.

Sniperdog, is this a 686 plus, Seven Shot? If so speedloaders are hard to come by. If it is the 686 6 shot, I go with speedloaders, although I have one cut for 38 super with moonclips. Just to lazy to look for my brass and wanted to load one caliber. Also there is a differenc if you reload left handed or right.
