Mag Spring Modification

Here's a couple shots of the super-trick mag spring modification detailed in the "Follower" thread. Note: this mod is ONLY for the newer style competition followers from SVI.

The important thing to know in the first image is that that spring has been in the mag for quite some time. Notice that it is perfectly straight. Without the super-trick bend, it would be curled forward in a C shape. The easiest thing is to just bend a "seasoned" spring to be perfectly straight, like the one in the photo, at the spot on the spring indicated by the non-flashing Monty Python arrow. When or if you bend a NEW spring, it will bend back at the bend somewhat. (Sorry I don't have a photo of a NEW spring, correctly bent.) After you load up the mag and leave it set overnight, it should look somewhat like the one pictured. (It may be still bent back, from perfectly straight, a tad. But it, in a perfect world, will finish straightening out over time.) The important thing is that when the spring is properly bent and seasoned, it should look like the one depicted in the photo - perfectly straight. But use caution in getting it perfect as you don't want to overdo the bending in an effort to get it too perfect, as each time you bend the spring it makes it weaker.

The next shot is a detail of the bend itself. Again, in case you didn't read the other post, this is the only location on the spring that I've had success with bending that actually corrects (and keeps corrected) the problem introduced by the tendency of the spring to go "nose-down" over time.
