Brian Payne
Just purchased a used JP-15. Shoots great and no malfunctions. After shooting several hundred rounds through the weapon I noticed fouling right in front of the receiver where the gas tube enters. The fouling is on the JP handguard, but about 1/2" of the gas tube is also visible at this location. Weapon seems to be working fine. I also have a DPMS with a Hogue forearm on it. The gas tube is completely encased by the forend at that location and I have never noticed any sort of fouling. Is what I am seeing normal? The weapon does have the adjustable gas block and I just put in a stainless steel low mass carrier. No complaints on the weapon at all. Have just never seen this before. TRUBL
You have an older JP handguard so yes you will notice that gas leakage deposits on the tube, very normal. When you are shooting that rifle, dont touch that exposed tube!!!.......its a little more than warm....one of the reasons why JP re-designed their handguard. Tim PS......had I not told you, you would have never touched it......now you will!!!!
Brian Payne
Tim Thanks for the reply. And you are right, I am sure I will touch it just to see how hot it can get . Payne
