syme71
Can a gun be stripped of hard chrome and re-chromed? If so, does it weaken the parts in any way? Thanks, Al
HSMITH
I had a revolver done once, crappy chrome pulled off and new chrome applied. I didn't have any problems. I have heard of hydrogen embrittlement as a result of doing this, but I don't have firsthand knowledge or experience to know if it is true or not. I do know that I won't hardchrome small parts like extractors, I think they get brittle but I can't prove it. Talk to the chromer of choice, they are the experts. Yeah...talk to Virgil about doing this. He explained the process to me once (basically reversing the current and putting the part in a tank with solvent). Virgil is the go-to guy when it comes to all things plating.
