hopalong
I have a M1 Garand, It has all new wood, a new Dutch Barrell and has been completely gone over and through. I recently took it to a NRA hi-power match and was not too happy with the results. the gun took half the match to start consitantly grouping (No I did not break it in) and I understand that part of it. But, during the rapid fire sitting, and prone it just kept shooting lower and lower. Then during the slow fire prone, after adjusting it to hit x ring (2 in a row and then a 10) it then started drifting down again to the point of changing the rear sight 6 clicks up just to keep it in the black. those who know more about these rifles please let me know what might be the problem, and the cure to what ailes it. Dan Sierpina
Sounds like the elevation adjustment is slipping. Try tightening the screw on the windage side one click at a time. Then run the sight up, and push down on it with your thumb. It should stay in place. The serrations for the elevator knob could be worn also.
