Dillon 550 Primer Tube Problem, Help!

Recommended Posts

When the primer bar picks up a primer on the downstroke, i'ts not just grabbing one primer in the cup. Most of the primers just seem to spill out all over the floor. Iv'e been reloading on this press for years, and I just took apart and cleaned everything so I know I did something. When I remove the primer tube assembly and mate it with the primer cup on the bar it seems like everything is fine, not too much clearance. I adjusted the set screw that sets the cup level several times, no change. Any ideas?

Edit: I notice a new problem simultaneously, my primer pickup tube can't pickup some primers, they just fall out as though the primers are suddenly a smaller diameter. Some data: new carton of 5000 primers, but same brand Winchester Small Rifle. Been using these for years. Could the new lot be slightly smaller diameter? (sounds stupid).

edit #2 solved! Primer cup was not aligned with primer tube, and plastic tips were worn out. Whew!
