Glocknewbie
I have just started shooting my 9 mm Glock. I am new to this entire thing and I don't really know anyone else who shoots. In addition to dryfire exercises, I dutifully go down to the range once or twice a month to shoot about 150-250 rounds. I go early in the morning and often have the range to myself. I've gone about five or six times now. As a newbie, I am concentrating on stance, breathing, grip, consistency, and rhythm, moreso than the bullseye. There is a yellow line at the range where I typically stop my bullseye target. I would guess that its about 7 yards away (?). On a good try, I get my shots in a fist sized grouping a little to the left of the bullseye. (I have been reading about Glock trigger and the many people who seem to have this left-leaning issue.) I also use torso targets, and typically get my shots in the nine, and most of them in the inner circles. Problem: I have no idea whether this is good, bad, or to be expected, especially since I don't see anyone else shoot. What is possible? What should I be trying for? What's reasonable for a newbie? Anyone have a training program with goals that they know about? Thanks.
Bill Schwab
There's many, many resources out there, you just gotta dig a little for them. For a decent dry fire routine go to Matt Burkett's web site and click on Shooting Tips and then Dryfire Drills: http://www.mattburkett.com/ For live fire drills you can go to: http://www.kuci.uci.edu/~dany/firearms/all_drills.html But before you do anything else buy Brian's booka nd read it so that you learn the right way to do things...easier to do it right now, then do it wrong for years and then try to fix it. There's lotsa good threads under the Misc Beginner's Forum (at the bottom of the main forum page). Such as: http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...16&topic=59 Plus you can look under the Training Drills forum. Hope this helps. Bill

ErikW
Now that you can shoot a fist-sized group at 7 yards, back up that target to about 15 yards.
bountyhunter
Exactly. And when you can do it at 15 yards, move the target out to 25 yards. The cool thing about shooting at 25 yards is that when you bring the target back into 15, it almost looks close enough to reach out and touch. At 8 yards, you start backing up from the claustrophobia!
Glocknewbie
Thanks all. I have ordered Brian's book. Having discovered the newbie section, I'll post the rest of my questions there! Thanks for the encouragement.
