Never having had more than one or two persons a day from New Orleans before, he ran to God and asked him what to do. God told him, "Don't worry, St Peter. There's been a terrible flood in New Orleans. That's the reason for the large number of New Orleanians showing up at once." St Peter ran back to the Pearly Gates and then ran right back to God yelling, "They're gone, they're gone!" God said calmly, "St Peter, those 1000 people from New Orleans could not be gone that quickly." St Peter said, "No, the Pearly Gates! They're gone!" The Nagin thing is so odd. I must admit that when I evacuated and later returned, I never thought he had a prayer of returning to City Hall. BUT, here in Louisiana (for you out of staters) we have an open primary system. Everyone runs together in the same race and then the top two go to a runoff. This is independent of party affiliation (this is the same system that brought us a govener's runoff of David Duke and Edwin Edwards . . . klansman and convict, literally). The way some of these number have broken down on Nagin is he basically made the runoff because nearly every black voter voted for him. This may seem normal, but in the previous election, where there was more than one viable black candidate, Nagin got very little black vote. Anyway, the guy that got into runoff with Nagin (Mitch) got all the liberal white vote in the primary. When the runoff came around, all the conservative vote (who had voted for candidates who finished 3rd and 4th) were left to choose between Chocolate City Nagin or Liberal Socialist Mitch. They chose Ray. Sorry for the hijack, I figure that for putting those two into the runoff New Orleans gets what it deserves. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
