steve Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 looking for a starting point, anyone have any good loads for the above. also, anyone have the hogdon annual data book--i believe they have data for the 155 grain hornady jhp which might serve as a reasonable start. thanks in advance for any replies.
TBF Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Steve, The Hodgdon's annual 2006 gives : 40 S&W 4" BBL. 155 Gr. Hornady XTP COL 1.125 Titegroup Win. WSP 5.4 @ 1058 FPS 28,400 PSI start load 5.9 @ 1139 FPS 31,700 PSI MAX load They also warn against using this in a chamber which is not fully supported. ( CYA IMHO ) Hope that helps . Travis F.
gm iprod Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I have used that exact load data in a factory Para loaded to 1.160" and got exactly what they said in the book. Accurate and reasonably clean. With a longer load you can ease the powder amount up about .3grain and achieve the stated velocities without any extra pressure. As previously stated, at the top load unsupported chambers may be a bad idea. Brass will not last long.
Harmon Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 i loaded some 5.5 grain loads with west coast 155 grain bullets at 1.135 oal and a federal 100 primer ill chrono them tomorrow out of my six inch gun..i think those will be major w/o problems Harmon
Harmon Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 5.5 grains TG in my G24 with 6 inch KKM barrel was 1150 fps and had kinda nasty sting in the hand... more recoil than i would like
