ANGRYREB Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Could you hard chrome a Ti cylinder? Would there be any advantages or disadvantages? Thank you for all inputs. Angryreb
Randy Lee Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 As far as I know, Titanium can't be chromed without grossly changing dimensions. A comp gun I once worked on was made of Ti and the cone was hard chromed to prevent wear. The thickness of the HC was on the order of .030 thick, which wouldn't work for our applications. The 325/327 cylinders shouldn't need chroming as the Smith versions are Melonite treated. I don't think anyone has worn one out yet...
haras Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 From another angle. If I was able to have a Ti cylinder made (for a 610) could it need to be treated to this Melonite process? Or would it run as is?
Randy Lee Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 If you use Ti6Al4 it should be heat treated and Melonited to give the external surfaces a hard "skin"
