One thing that everyone needs to keep in mind: Stage clearence time

Let's say that we have a stage that takes 30 seconds to shoot, 2 minutes to score, 1 min 30 sec for the next shooter to get to to the line. This equals 4 minutes. there are 10 people on your squad, this is now 40 minutes, 2 mnutes to read the WSB, 8 minutes to travel stage to stage and a 5 minute walk-through. this is 55 minutes. if we have a 6 stage match, we are now looking at 5-1/2 hours! at the club level we generally have to build and tear down the match the same day, so let's look at the whole day, 0700 show up and start to build, 1000 first shot, 1530 last shot, 2 hours to clean up, it is now 1730 or 5:30PM, the average crew has just spent the better part of twelve hours if you add in reasonable drive time so you can shoot a match.

5 minutes is long enough,

Maybe we need to distinguish between a club match and a major match. Jim's point is well taken for a club match. I'm not saying that one should not approach stages at a club match just as seriously as a major (club match = training for major), but one must be practical for the reasons Jim stated.

However, at a major match, where stages are set up in advance, a dedicated RO crew runs each stage, and more is at stake, 5 minutes ain't gonna cut it. That is why we arrive early, many times the day before, and check out the stages, develop a plan, and begin programming. The 5 minutes are just the final polish on the program.

It sure shouldn't take the next shooter a minute and a half to get ready. That's a looooong time with everybody standing there waiting. Unless there's lots of toweling to do! :)
