Julien Boit
I just saw that STI, and maybe others, sells "California" pistols. Are there any special requirements for handguns in CA ? I read once that comped pistols must have a non-removable comp to be legal in CA, Right ? DVC Julien :-)
David Benzick
The "California" stamp of approval just means it passed a bunch of silly tests designed for buracrats by buracrats. If you want all the details check out ca.gov, click on justice department and then on firearms. We have the government we deserve. ErikW
There are many requirements and prohibitions for guns in Caliban-controlled territory. The STI CA-Edge is made to pass some drop/impact tests so that it will be legal for sale in Calif. They put a steel guide rod in place of the usual tungsten rod, and a titanium firing pin in place of the steel unit. Oh yeah, and they engraved the slide with a different name. The thing about the comps is something entirely different.
TMC
STI will sell you an fitted open top end for the gun if you want. Once in CA a gunsmith can do anything you want. In CA a cone comp is o.k. because if you unscrew it gun won't function. If you have a bull barrel with a threaded comp it must be pinned or welded. warpspeed
I live in CA and Erik is right, the CA DOJ has a bunch of laws desgined to prevent "unsafe" handguns from being sold or made in CA. Most will say the laws do not do anything except make it harder to sell a gun in CA. I have a CA EDGE from STI. Works flawless. It did come with a titainium firing pin and a SS guide rod.
