Change Grip

TODA

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have a sti grandmaster and I would like to change the grip.

I have removed all I can but I can't find how to remove the mainspring.

I have tried to push the little pin which is blocking the mainspring on the top, but it's blocked by the leaf spring (and I don't know how to remove the leaf spring).

I've also looked for removing the magwell but can't find the way.

Can anyone help me ?

The mainspring housing (and probably the magwell, too) is held in via a pin at the bottom, rear corner of the gun. Drive that pin out with a punch, and the mainspring housing will slide out the bottom of the gun (and the magwell will come off, too).

The little pin you see in the back of the MSH retains the mainspring cap. It won't come out without the MSH being out of the gun in the first place.

welcome to the forums for starters.

you might want to get someone to help you in person. these are very basic break down procedures of field stripping an STI and other 1911's.
