Cr Speed Mag Pouches Single Stack Problem?

I shoot .45 with CR Speed holster and pouches and 10 round Wilson Combat single stack stainless mags.

I have a recurring problem during reloads where the first round in the mag creeps forward. Usually not a big problem. Once in a great while the first round actually jumps out of the mag completely as I draw it from the pouch. Yesterday it caused a major malfunction because the round must have popped out as the mag went into the gun. Not fun.

My first thought was that the mags were in need of tuning, and I still don't rule that out completely, but upon further examination I'm not so sure that's the problem. The mags seem to hold the rounds quite securely out of the pouch -- I think the problem is happening because of the pouch itself. It looks to me like there is a drag on the nose of the round as the mag is put into and removed from the CR pouch that pulls the cartridge forward enough to create problems, in effect starting a feed of the round.

Is this just a natural problem with single stack mags? (I can understand how the tapered top of a double stack would not allow the round to contact the sides of the pouch.) Or is there a better pouch for single stacks than the CR speed that I should use? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I've never had a lick of trouble out of mine, but by and far I use 47Ds. In dry firing I noticed I had this problem with a Bureaucrat and finally discovered that when the mag hit the ground post-reload, it was bouncing the first round forward.

You might also want to look at your mag draw and see if you're not sweeping the mag back a bit as you clear the carrier. You might be pushing the case head forward and out if you sweep to far and to violently to the rear during your reload.

You are right that pulling towards the back when removing the magazine aggravates the problem, but it seems like it can also start when the first round contacts the bottom of the mag pouch on insertion. This pushes the nose of the round down and allows it to spring forward slightly, starting a feed-like movement. Maybe I have to tighten the rear of the feed lips slightly on the magazines?

I am wondering if an open-bottom magazine retainer might be smart. I've seen ones that just kind of clip the side of the magazine rather than form a pouch with a bottom. This might be more reliable if the magazine isn't perfectly set up (something that I find very difficult to know how to do, frankly).

Never had a problem with mine. Do you angle them drastically?

My bad. I re-tuned the mags and that seems to have been the problem. Mind you, I'm still intrigued by the idea of open-bottom mag holders...
