Would a compensated 17 or 22 with a red dot be feasible as an open gun project?

My 2c worth:

You will have fewer problems starting out, and spend less money, if you buy a stock G34 and send it to Brian Hawley. Have him put a KKM extended/threaded 9x19 barrel and one of his 3port Titanium comps and then [your choice] either his modified Carver mount w/C-More, or his melt job Docter sight directly on the slide. If you do that, buy the Docter from Beven Grams with his bullet-proofing & brightening job - with the 7 MOA dot.

Shoot that and develop some loads that make Major. THEN decide if you want to get extra porting in the barrel. The G34 gets more velocity for the same chamber pressure as a G17. Even more so if you leave the barrel alone. That means less headaches in getting ammo that works. Stock Glock slides are better for getting good ignition on the primers too. Flexmoney and several other people have had good luck with the G34/KKM combination.

With the big cut in the G34 slide you can easily have your local ipsc gunsmith add TJ ports if Brian is backed up with work. If you decide to change from Docter to C-More or vice versa, you won't be out much money, you can easily sell a Carver or a C-More or a Docter sight. BrianH and Tom Novak both charge about 80 bucks for the Docter install.
