I think it's crap that he told you, you have to run long ammo. I have a custom gun that has ran long and short from tuned, un-tuned, and mbx mags alike. My friend built his own pistol and while having some issues in the beginning it will run just as well. His problems were with barrel throating. I believe if a gun is built right it ought to run and not need to be so specialized to do so.

I ran into that issue a couple times with the second to last bullet in one of my mags, running 200 gr RN bayous at 1.18 (in a new CKA Hardcore). It was a mag issue. I did have to modify my Grams followers so the gun would not go into slide lock with one bullet left in the mag. That is also a common issue with 2011 mags tuned to get an extra round or two in the magazine when you have a functioning slide lock. You just have to shave/grind off the lip that bumps the slide lock.
