Stuey
I am loading plated hollow points and wanted to know what OAL people load theirs compared to regular plated bullets. Any input would be appreciated.
dave33
I load to about 1.09 OAL to shoot out of my XDM 5.25. Works well for me, hollow point bullets are more accurate than anything else I load with.
Hi-Power Jack
I load MG 124 gr JHP's to 1.165" in my TruBor. But, if I changed bullets, I would probably have to load to a different OAL. The way I'd find out what OAL is appropriate for a different bullet, in my gun, is to run The Plunk Test - take barrel out of gun, try your favorite load (1.13", eg), and see if the cartridge drops completely into the chamber with a PLUNK - that means it's completely seated. Then, I'd test it by rotating the bullet, pushing down on the base of the cartridge, and try to drop the cartridge out of the barrel. If it won't rotate or drop, it hasn't passed The Plunk Test - and I'd shorten it down to 1.12", and repeat until I found an OAL that fits MY GUN with that Particular Bullet.
