Flyin40
Did anyone check out Dave Samples Patriot course in latest issue of American Handgunner??? He teaches you how to build a custom pistol while your at home. Pistols look pretty impressive for first time builders. Flyin40
shred
I built Patriot 28 a couple years ago. If you follow instructions and put a lot of labor in, you'll get a very nice 1911. It will be done as Dave says it should be done. Here's a link to a Picture of the finished product
Flyin40
When you were done with the class were you able to work on your own guns??? Have a completed pistol that you did is nice but I want to end up having enough knowledge that I can work on my guns. Flyin40
shred
What you learn in class is building that one 1911 design using the exact parts, tools and methods specified. After the class you can then go on to experiment with other things on your own. I do some things, have fit a few grip and thumb safeties, extractors etc and built a STI bottom end from parts. But...most of my work is still done by pro gunsmiths. They've got the big machine tools and a million times more experience (read: $ worth of trashed parts while learning) than I do.
