SWHlctx
I've got a 550B and I'm going to use the strongmount to mount it to my bench. I will need to set the strongmount back from the edge about 2" to clear the front 2x6 to be able to use the bolts going through the top of the bench. Will setting the strongmount back that far interfere with the operation of the press handle on the down stroke? I thought I read somewhere on this forum 1.5" was the furthest back it could go. Dirty Rod
Mine are both 1.75" and the handle clears the edge of the bench by about 1/2".
pmt
If you don't want to move it back too far, try using the bolts/nuts in the rear holes and lag bolts or heavy duty wood screws in the front holes.
SWHlctx
If you don't want to move it back too far, try using the bolts/nuts in the rear holes and lag bolts or heavy duty wood screws in the front holes. I wondered about the idea of using the lag screws. The bench top is 2x6 with 1/2" plywood skin gluded and nailed on top. The bench is anchored to the wall and floor, so it's plenty strudy. My concern was the lag screws working loose over time. Thinking about it I've got a vise that has been secured with lag screws for 15 years and it's not loose. The vise has taken more of a beating and abuse than the press ever will.
