MoNsTeR
....though it may be the case that sniping is an optimal response to other bidders' non-optimal bidding strategies. http://www.uni-magdeburg.de/vwl3/axel/uni/...h-ockenfels.pdf I found this paper absolutely fascinating, both as an eBay user and an economist. It's non-technical enough for a general audience, if anyone's got an extra 15 minutes I recommend giving it a read.
bucktim
I feel dirty after reading that. All I want from ebay is something very expensive for really cheap. Thats it. And I usually find it. I sell items also, but I can't complain if I sell it cheap, because at least its not sitting in the closet, worthless. $$ in the hand is better than junk on the floor. raz-0
bidding early is great. Just depends on where and when. For example, musical insturments. Often being sold by 20-somethings with drug problems. Often being purchased by 20-somethigns with drug problems. Bid yourself a solid good deal and leave it alone. You may find yourself getting some decent gear at great prices just because one guy needs his fix and the other one decided to shoot/snort/smoke his auction money before getting that money order sent.
