recoil spring troubles

Hi all. I bought this ATI commander in .45 a few months ago and, amazingly, she runs like a champ! 2,000 rounds without a single hiccup. However, a couple hundred rounds ago I noticed my recoil spring is somewhat kinked. I can feel each coil "jump" onto the GI-length guide rod when I work the slide slowly. Any thoughts as to the diagnosis and what I can do to prevent a recurrence, besides just throwing a new stock spring in? Is a full-length guide rod the correct treatment? What about a flat spring? Wilson makes their flat springs in response to the problem of round springs bunching up and getting jammed in compact 1911s, but I would be surprised if that were the culprit in this gun.

Thanks very much for any input you guys might have!
