funshooting
Hi all, I'm curious what cleaning systems work best for 1911s and/or 9mm handguns? I was thinking about getting the Otis Pistol Kit. I have one for my rifle and seems to do a nice job. Any other opinions or considerations? P.S. Apolgies in advance if I posted this on the wrong section. I didn't see a section for maintenance. EricW
Qtips and rags work fine. A $2 can of brake cleaner helps on occasion. Cleaning a pistol barrel is waste of your precious time. The only reason to clean your barrel is if you're switching from lead back to jackets.
SRT Driver
Agree with EricW. Good barrels rarely need much attention. The chamber once in a while though. Kroil and a Qtip. And maybe an old sock for the mag tunnel. Detail strip it once in a blue moon and use more Kroil and Qtip's. And an AR15 cleaning brush.
George
Yep, right with the party line. Save the fancy cleaning gear for rifles. P-shooters run fine with jacketed over the long haul with little or no barrel cleaning, just keep the chamber wiped out. Kroil, a brush and q-tip are indeed the easy way to do that. I rarely push metal rods through pistol bores anymore. -- Regards,
