Roundguy
I think Mike21 is right. I would start at 5-5.2 and work up from there if needed.
RaylanGivens
I would buy a box of factory ammo and see if it runs in your gun. If it does, load around 1.133 and you'll be able to use your rounds in any .40 you eventually own. I started loading long (1.186) for my Edge and regret doing so because those rounds only run in that one gun. I now load at 1.133 and my Edge runs fine. Hope thus helps. Shot several hundred rounds of Winchester white box. It all ran fine and cycled well. Not a single problem. take the barrel out of your gun and make a few at 1.18- 1.20 and do the plunk test. if they drop out freely then you are good. Loaded four dummy rounds for the plunk test. 1.135 - Success 1.163 - Success 1.182 - Fail 1.202 - Fail Think I'll load a few more test rounds... 1.165, 1.170, 1.175, and 1.180. That should identify the maximum OAL more accurately. Once I know the maximun OAL, how close should I size the cartridges? Maybe 0.015 under the maximum? The would leave 0.005 for OAL tolerances and 0.010 for clearance.
