ShooterSteve
I really want to shoot the match at bangsteel in Apr, but there is a huge BSA event going on here that I have a hard commitment to. I know they won't be "proper" targets, but ya'll ring some for me!
dauntedfuture
Any update? I still think that an NRA type competition will be a good first start. You are going to get sighters, you can use a rest and you will know how far you are shooting. Coaching is encouraged for new shooters. I think you will get more out of shooting paper then steel as you will have a better idea of where you are. Make sure you crono your ammunition and check a calculator, if your not supersonic at 1000yds try another load until you are there. There are typically 600 (midrange) and 1000 yd long range matches, if you have your choice try 600 yds first. Jonathan
CMonty
Lived in South FL without any ranges >100yd. PCS'd to Fort Campbell, KY which has a 100-825yd KD range for personal use and got hooked.
458Lottfan
I started out with an older M70 top feed and a good scope. Just show up and shoot. Get to know what the sport is about and what other shooters are shooting. Wind calls and understanding how to shoot the positions in the stages far out weight what equipment you shoot. I spent a year shooting these matches before I upgraded my gear. I still shot in the top 10-12 our of 20-24 shooters in our local matches with my hunting rifle. The top 6 shooters in our local club are all sponsored or incredibly good shooters. Most everyone in our club has been overwhelmingly helpful with new shooters. Bring what you have and have fun!
