Clays and Alliant Claydot

So the buzz on the web is that Claydot mimics Clays. Any experience w. .45 ACP 200 gr lead?

Hmm.....nothing. Got the same response on 1911 Forum. Emailed Alliant asking for load data: nothing. Going to run out of Clays in about two months. No more Clays until summer according to my guy at Graf's.

I will assume that most are just like me. I have no experience with Claydot but will pick up a can the next time I see it available to test. I spend about as much time testing as shooting so I will let you know if it makes the grade the first chance I see some to purchase. You are probably right in your assumption, time will tell.

Sounds good, unfortunately the window closed on Claydot availability (Wideners had 8lb. cans last week). Will keep my eyes open.

I have just opened my second 8lb tub of ClayDot... It is good stuff, about a tenth grain more is needed to get Clays velocities. Accuracy has been excellent, as clean as Clays and seems a tad softer....more like VV310 but without the pressure. So far I have used my Clays loads as a starting point and either gone up a tenth or stayed the same. E3 was a tad slower but I found it a bit smokey with lead boolits.

Nothing magical. Just start on the low side and chrono until you obtain the same velocities. I use a lot of Aliant's PROMO starting with their RED DOT data.
