srf
Is Slide Glide suitable for use as an anti-sieze compound? Specifically - Can I use it to re-barrel an AR?
Chris Rhines
It probably won't hurt to slop some S-G on the barrel threads. There's a lot of disagreement on the proper goop for AR barrel threads - some people use grease, some (myself included) use anti-seize, some big names in the AR industry glue the barrel nut on with blue Loctite. Some use nothing at all. - Chris
srf
Thanks Chris. The more I research this the more I'm convinced it's not going to hurt anyway.
John Dunn
Over on AR15.com I think the going recommendation for the barrel nut is some sort of moly grease. There were a couple of threads stating you should stay away from graphite containing anti-seize, as the graphite could cause corrosion. That said, the last AR I assembled (yesterday!) I used Slide Glide on the barrel nut, because that is what I had on hand. If I ever rebarrel the thing I'll post back on what I find.
