Fly with ammo or not

For those of you that fly commercial to matches, do ship your ammo to the match site prior to your arrival or do you pack it in your checked baggage? Which way is more hassle free?

You can fly with it, each airlines have their own limits, but shipping it is less of a hassle and pretty much what I do now when flying to matches.

There is no problem flying with ammo as long as you stay under the weight allowed. I generally ship most of my ammo to the hotel which has always worked out well. I fly with enough ammo to sight in at the match as we always go to the range first and then to the hotel where my shipped ammo is.

I fly with my match ammo. If I can practice before the match then I ship enough ammo to practice and for the match. I still take match ammo with me flying though.

I've only flown to one match and I checked the ammo. Its a good thing they didn't weigh it though... If you're shooting .40 or .45 it's really not possible to stay under 11 pounds and have a safe cushion of ammo for reshoots unless it's a really small match.

Any matches next year I will be shipping to the match hotel.
