whats the difference in the bennelli M1 and M4?

The M4 is gas operated, the M1 is recoil operated. The M4 is the version of the shotgun that the US Military is using for breaching jobs.

USPSA Open is restricted to 11rnds loaded, no other restrictions.

USPSA Limited: 9 rnds loaded, no compensator, ported barrel or speedloading devices.

If you're set on a Benelli, I would suggested a M1 S90 Field with a 21" vent rib barrel for Limited and around a 26" vent rib barrel for Open.

There are also non-USPSA 3-Gun matches run under the "International Muti-Gun Assocation" Rules. They are similar to the USPSA's rules and can be found here.
