Religious Shooter
I did some chronoing today. Unfortunately it was a 100+ degrees out. I got: 124 FMJ Precision Delta 4.4 Universal Clays, 1.160" COAL, FSP, Mixed Cases = 1066 fps (5 shot avg) => 132 PF 4.7 Universal Clays, 1.160" COAL, FSP, Mixed Cases = 1126 fps (5 shot avg) => 139 PF (4.9 is book max) Shot from a relatively new G34. Does 4.4 sound right? I have 2000 bullets ready to be loaded and I'm hesitant to use 4.4 grains because it was a 100+ degrees. This is my first 8lb jug of UC and I don't know how temp sensitive it is. Is it positive or negative temp sensitive? I need to make minor PF (these loads will be for Production). If I shoot the 4.4 UC load at say 60-80 degrees will I still make minor? Thanks.
sroe3
I load 124 grain plated bullets with 4.4 Universal and achieve similar PF in the always cool NW.
njl
My standard 124gr load is between 4.3 and 4.4gr Universal Clays, a little shorter OAL, PD or MG bullets, and for the round nose, does about the same velocity from a G17 as you got. I haven't noticed temp sensitivity...but I haven't specifically tested for it. For MG JHP, I load even shorter, and get around 1120fps.
