Recommendations for 40SW major in G22 Limited

New to reloading and I know that I need to get a chrono, but I have a buddy who's going to loan me one for this project. So I'm looking to find a starting point for a limited 40 major load. I've just put in a new LW barrel to shoot lead and I'll be shooting 180g Naked Lead bullets and using Tight group powder. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Side note: this forum is awesome and the help and info shared here is just outstanding.

Thanks,

DH

Titegroup is a fabulous powder (can you tell I am a little biased) but it is well-known fact that, when used behind bare-lead projectiles, the combination produces insurmountable amounts of smoke. If you are dead set on on using bare-lead bullets, you would be better served using Solo 1000 or WST.

I'm not opposed to switching powders, but that's what I'm currently using because I was shooting plated before. Because I'm not able to find plated due to the big purge, I've decided to switch to lead due to the ease of purchasing. Do you have any suggestions on amount of powder with either titegroup or Solo or WST?

I'm shooting a Glock 22 with a KKM barrel and one of my favorite loads for major is a 175 grain bullet that I cast myself from wheel weight and 4.1 - 4.2 grains of titegroup. People say that titegroup has a tendency to smoke alot but, I've used it with cast lead and moly coated bullets with very little smoke at all. Thats just my experience with it, your results my vary.

Southern, it's awesome that you're using titegroup and that load is pretty close to what we've put together so far. We actually loaded up a few rounds at 4.2 with the 180g lead and some at 4.4. We're hoping to chrono them this weekend so once we do, I'll let you know what we found. Since I'm new to reloading, do you think the extra 5g of bullet would have a major (pun intended) impact on the PF numbers? Also, what PF are you achieving with your load?

The extra weight shouldn't have much impact on the PF. It'll probably go up a few points. As for the PF with my loads, I'm not sure. I came up with this load from some data from hodgdon and lyman. I haven't been able to chrono them but, according to what I've read, they should be making major.

N320 is a faster burning powder, with a burn rate slightly slower than titegroup and solo 1000. While it is slower burning than titegroup, I can't tell a difference between the 2. I loaded some precision 180s with 320 a while back and really love that round. Soft shooting and plenty accurate.
