KTKlaus
I am looking for some in field experiences for Hornady 150 fmjbt. Cases will be mixed (mostly commercial) using cci primers. Im looking for a good powder choice that will meter well in a Dillon 650 (i dislike varget). Ill be using a self built lr308 with a 18" 1/11 Rainier arms barrel and surefire brake. Any suggestions? Marv Z
IMR 4895 or TAC both work very well in .308 I have no problems metering 4895 with the wider case mouth in .308. I use SMK 168's in my LR308 with a JP 18" barrel. No crono numbers yet, but it's very accurate. TAC works well for everything and is my #1 choice in .
M ammo
http://www.jprifles.com/document_pdfs/JPHandLoading_17.pdf First read what JP has to say,, Small base Full length dies! Save yourself some pain!!! Small Base,,dies,, I also had problems with Federal 308 brass holding primers. When fired. You might stay away from 308 Fed brass. KTKlaus
I might need to clarify a few things. I am using Dillon full length carbine dies. I work at a public range and most commercial brass I pick up is Remington or Winchester, I normally stay away from FC, as I usually do with 223. My issue is that I can get 150FMJBT for relatively cheap at work, in the thousands than 110 VMax (thinking overall cost here). I load 175SMK and 168 Horn HPBT for my Remington 700 and another DPMS SASS style rifle, but for sheer volume and hoser rounds, 150 is what I am trying to develop, in fact more so trying to get M80 ball parameters but more for use with 3Gun. At this current time I can pretty much get any powder choice from VV, Alliant, Ramshot, IMR and Hodgdon at the shop, and CCI primers I have on hand in the thousands. Hope that helps with what I am trying to achieve. Edited November 9, 2012 by KTKlaus
co-exprs
For 150gr fmj, I run 43.5gr IMR 8208, 2.775 oal, no crimp, for 2725fps. I get excellent accuracy, excellent consistency, excellent reliability. 8208 is temp stable like varget, but meters better and produces better velocity, as well as a more complimetary pressure curve for semiautomatics.
