how does the length of a recoil spring affect proformance?

i am playing with springs for my mp45. I removed the stock one and compared it against the one i planned to use and the stock one is quite a bit longer. Close to 2 inch. So what affect will it have on my gun if i used the shorter spring?

don't forget to count the coils. worn springs will be shorter than a fresh spring with the same # of coils.

My used spring was still longer than, by almost an inch, the new spring of the same weight rating.

Found out the old spring was brand W and the new spring is brand I.

Different manufacturers have different lengths of the same weight rating springs.

I know, apples and oranges...got to compare lengths with the same brand springs.

Just saying you could also try different brand springs of the weight you settle on.
