grouse
excellent deal on a noveske upper in the classifieds. My noveske SPR barrels have shot lights out.
jobob
About 10 years ago I bought my first AR, a Bushmaster 20" V-Match. I've done a few things to it, like a JP handguard, Timney trigger, Miculek comp, replacement bcg (because the original was the old style with exposed firing pin, and because it was less than reliable with some loads). I've bought other ARs since, but every time I shoot that old V-Match I get more impressed with it. It seems to want to shoot everything I put through it close to 1" at 100 yds. I have more expensive ARs, but that old Bushy is becoming my go-to rifle. (Next life I'll probably get a JP, though!) I say this to illustrate that you don't need to spend $ for semi-custom rifles like JPs or Noveskes just to try 3-gun. It doesn't hurt, though, if you don't mind spending more for a top-drawer rifle. I'm just saying you don't need to do that to get started. A decent quality over the counter rifle should serve you well until you are good enough to compete at the top levels, but by then you will have sponsors who will insist that you shoot their rifle. Sponsors can be so narrow minded!
