USPSA/IDPA Clinics or Training?

I am new to this game and I am totally hooked. I have been to 4 USPSA matches and 3 IDPA matches since the middle of March. My first USPSA match I finished in the bottom five, the next I finished in the bottom half and that is where I have placed since then. I feel like I am doing pretty well while I am shooting but I realize that Im really not once the scores are posted. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and have been watching every USPSA/IDPA video and video I can find on YouTube. I have been practicing dry fire nearly every day and live fire a couple times a week and I think that I have improved. However, I have often heard in other sports that I have competed in that perfect practice makes perfect. I am concerned that in my ignorance I may be developing some bad habits that may be hard to break if I continue.

I live in Northern Nevada near Reno. Can someone please direct me to any clinics that are coming up in the near future in Northern Nevada or California or refer me to a GM nearby that is offering clinics or is willing to provide some one on one training? I am willing to travel a couple hundred miles if necessary.

While learning from a GM is a great thing, it's not your only option. What USPSA or IDPA division are you shooting? Who is the highest scorer in your division? Who is high overall for the match. Talk to them and ask if you can video them shooting the stages and then have a friend video you shooting the same stages. Now study the videos and break everything down. What didi you do right, what was wrong? Where are you wasting time? There's a reason pro sports use game film - it shows how plays are made or not made, the good, the bad and the ugly. Travel to an area match and watch how the best shooters plan their stage run and then execute that plan.

Always practice with a buddy so you can evaluate each others performance. Dryfire and practice reloads on your own until you can do them in your sleep.

I'm sure there's a lot of other ideas but this should get you started.

I've been shooting in Production or limited 10 and SSP. There are a some really good shooters in all of those divisions and its a little hard to get squaded up with them as they tend to stick together. I have tried to sneak over and watch them from time to time when I have had the chance. The video suggestion is a good idea and I have been looking around for one. Those are all good suggestions and I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. That is another thing that I enjoy about this sport...most everyone takes the time to try and help us new guys out.

If you'd be willing to travel to the oklahoma city area PM me and I'll give you a recommendation for a great instructor ...

I think that Oklahoma may be a little to far away but thanks for the recommendation offer.
