Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've had my Shadow Target since the first of September. It is warn the same way as you described. Normal? I have a SP-01 Shadow that I've had since June. It still looks like new. I guess because the SP-01 has a poly coated slide. I bought them both brand new and both have seen a lot of holster use but the SP-01 more so.
  2. Great decision to buy the Shadow Custom. I bought a P226 and then bought a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow and then liked it so much I bought a CZ75 Shadow T both from Angus. Now that I have the Shadow T the SP-01 Shadow is on its way back to CZC to become a Custom (wish I had bought it that way to begin with). For now I still have the Sig but it is no where near the gun that the Shadows are. You will never be sorry.
  3. Just changed out the front sight to a Dawson FO .125 X .160 from the .100 X .180. It is pretty much right on for me and the .125 is more to my liking with the Warren rear.
  4. Before I place an order, can anyone tell me if the XDM 5.25 .40 Dawson extended base pads will work with the Pistol Gear magwell? I know that Dawson is working on one but is there any other magwell that will work with the Dawson Base pads?
  5. I have the exact same set up on my p226. I have the same issues, shoots low and too much daylight around the front sight. I'm interested to hear what others have to say as well. I'm wondering if the .160 front may be too much or not enough. I was thinking about the Dawson .125 X .170. I'm looking forward to hearing what you end up with. Also, interested in how your Grayguns trigger work comes out. I sent mine to Sig a couple months ago for the Advanced Enhancement Package. I'm really happy with how it came back.
  6. If your buddy isn't thinking about it already, he needs to get one of his own. I don't think I could ever go back to shooting the Glocks again, there is that much of a difference in how much better I shoot with the Shadow.
  7. Congratulations. I got mine from CZ custom last Friday. Mine isn't a custom it's a standard SP-01 Shadow and I couldn't imagine it bring any better than it is now. If it is a Custom it must be unbelievable. I shot it last weekend in Production and could not believe how much better I did. You are going to be really happy.
  8. Well got the gun Friday evening, put 300 rounds through it Saturday and shot in a USPSA match on Sunday. I have to say I could not be happier. It is everything that everyone said it is and more and not a single problem. I placed in the upper half overall and third in Production overall. I have never shot that well with anything. By far the best gun I've ever shot let alone ever owned. If your looking for a new gun to buy, make sure you look hard at a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow. You won't be disappointed.
  9. I realize that the SP-01 Shadow cannot be used as is for IDPA/SSP but having shot the SP-01 Tactical I think I really like the added weight. So if I decide to use it for IDPA I will look into the things needed to lighten it up or hope that the new IDPA rules regarding weight will change. For now, I think I am good until the next gun purchase craving hits me. A future Limited gun, CZ 75 TS or Custom Shop CTS maybe?
  10. Update: I stumbled across a CZ75 SP-01 Tactical for sale on a local shooters forum. I really wanted to see it and handle it so I contacted the gentleman to see if I could check it out. I told him I was really in the market for a Shadow but I just wanted to handle the gun because I had never seen or held a CZ before. He understood and agreed to meet up with me that evening. The gun was like new and as soon as I picked it up I had to have it even though it wasn’t a Shadow. The price was right and included a Blade-Tech holster so I bought it. I practiced with the gun and I was amazed at how accurate it was and how fast I could get back on target after each shot. The next weekend I took it and shot it at a local IDPA match. (I know it is overweight and I told them that ahead of time and they agreed to let me shoot it in SSP). The gun ran excellent and I was quite happy with how well I did considering that I hadn’t really taken the time to get used to it. I love the gun but I really don’t care for the night sights, I like starting off with the hammer in half de-cock and the SA trigger is really not bad at all but I couldn’t resist looking at the Custom Shops prices on the internet to install a competition rear sight, front FO sight, custom de-cocker hammer and tune the trigger. After looking at the cost of having the work done plus shipping I compared it to what it would cost to purchase a new SP-01 Shadow. After doing the math it seemed like it would be better just to buy the Shadow rather than investing the money into the Tactical. For the heck of it I decided to try to sell the Tactical just to see if it would sell and if it did I would use the funds to purchase a Shadow. I posted it on the forum yesterday and had it sold within a couple hours. I called Rob today at CZ Custom and they had the SP-01 Shadows in stock. He said they could ship it today and I would have it in 2 days to my FFL. Made the deal, called my local FFL guy and a new SP-01 Shadow is on its way. Hoping to have it by Saturday and if it shows up on time, it will be replacing the Glock 34 shooting Production at the local USPSA match this Sunday. Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I am sure I made the right move.
  11. You mentioned a Skill builder course...Can you tell me a little more about that?
  12. I believe that my mind is pretty much made up that I am going to go with the Shadow eventually. Your story helps to confirm that I will be making a good choice. I just wish there was one around here that I could get my hands on.
  13. I think that Oklahoma may be a little to far away but thanks for the recommendation offer.
  14. While learning from a GM is a great thing, it's not your only option. What USPSA or IDPA division are you shooting? Who is the highest scorer in your division? Who is high overall for the match. Talk to them and ask if you can video them shooting the stages and then have a friend video you shooting the same stages. Now study the videos and break everything down. What didi you do right, what was wrong? Where are you wasting time? There's a reason pro sports use game film - it shows how plays are made or not made, the good, the bad and the ugly. Travel to an area match and watch how the best shooters plan their stage run and then execute that plan. Always practice with a buddy so you can evaluate each others performance. Dryfire and practice reloads on your own until you can do them in your sleep. I'm sure there's a lot of other ideas but this should get you started. I've been shooting in Production or limited 10 and SSP. There are a some really good shooters in all of those divisions and its a little hard to get squaded up with them as they tend to stick together. I have tried to sneak over and watch them from time to time when I have had the chance. The video suggestion is a good idea and I have been looking around for one. Those are all good suggestions and I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. That is another thing that I enjoy about this sport...most everyone takes the time to try and help us new guys out.
  15. I am new to this game and I am totally hooked. I have been to 4 USPSA matches and 3 IDPA matches since the middle of March. My first USPSA match I finished in the bottom five, the next I finished in the bottom half and that is where I have placed since then. I feel like I am doing pretty well while I am shooting but I realize that Im really not once the scores are posted. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and have been watching every USPSA/IDPA video and video I can find on YouTube. I have been practicing dry fire nearly every day and live fire a couple times a week and I think that I have improved. However, I have often heard in other sports that I have competed in that perfect practice makes perfect. I am concerned that in my ignorance I may be developing some bad habits that may be hard to break if I continue. I live in Northern Nevada near Reno. Can someone please direct me to any clinics that are coming up in the near future in Northern Nevada or California or refer me to a GM nearby that is offering clinics or is willing to provide some one on one training? I am willing to travel a couple hundred miles if necessary.
