Siphon Odesse
Gunnar Sonsteby, one of the leaders of the Norwegian resistance movement during WWII, has passed away at 94. He was key in gathering intelligence on the occypiyng forces in Norway, and was the last surviving member of the "Oslo Gang", who executed several daring raids during the war. Sonsteby received several awards for his wartime efforts, and is the most highly awarded civilian in Norway. He was also the first non-American to receive the United States Special Operations Command Award. He gave over a thousand lectures for young students describing the war years, though he never boasted over his own considerable contribution in the resistance. instead he underlined the necessity to uphold democracy, peace and freedom. He was last celebrated on the 8th of May, the day that marked the end of the occupation of Norway in 1945. He died peacefully on the 10th of May as one of the most revered and respected men in Norway. Would that there were more like him.
