tanfo firing pin springs

What's with the Tanfo firing pin springs? They are sooooo long and produce lots of resistance before the firing pin hits the primer. CZ 75 fp spring is about one inch long (?). Can you clip or replace the tanfo firing pin spring so as to reduce resistance and light primer strikes?

You can, but think long and hard about it.

The FPB on the Tanfoglio's don't seem to be designed to be fail-safe. By default, the block seems to allow the firing pin to fire. When the sear is in the cocked position, that seems to be the only time that the block engaged.

Are you getting light strikes?

Did you also lighten your hammer spring and so now you are getting light strikes?

And assuming, that you do decide to trim the firing spring down, how do you justify trimming the spring under the IPSC Production rule Appendix D4.16.1:

16.1 Modifications to them, other than minor detailing (the removal of burrs and/or adjustments unavoidably required in order to fit replacement OFM parts or components), are prohibited.

Since the spring already fits in the gun, how can you justify it as minor detailing unless you say: It was not a modification. I just kept on polishing with the Dremel until the spring was a few coils shorter.

Oops. Bad assumption on my part. I just sort of recall seeing his last name before is some match results and had always associated Production division with it. Sorry.

they can be trimmed but only about 1.5 to 2 coils after that I ran into the problem of the firing pin getting stuck in the breach face when dry fired (like at hammer down,holster, its great on the next make ready when you rack the slide and the firing pin stop falls out and the movement dislodges the firing pin and it shoots it over your shoulder)trimming them down a little can help with ignition if you are running right at the edge with your primers.
