Faithful servants from our military forces

I am taken this week by the quiet, steadfast devotion shown by Maj. Gen. Galen B. Jackman, in his duties as escort for former First Lady Nancy Reagan. He imparted a subtle strength and courage, while maintaining the upmost in professionalism and diginty during this difficult period.

One moment in particular I will remember was when he attempted to take a step backward, out of the "limelight", as Mrs. Reagan turned to wave to the crowd of well-wishers in California from the top of the steps of the plane carrying her beloved to Washington. She didn't allow it and held fast to his hand as she waved. With so many now trying to hitch their wagon to this event, his attempt to remove himself from Her moment displayed remarkable character.

I am also grateful for the numerous members of the various Honor Guards and Color Guards who performed so admirably their duties this week. Their service will be remembered.
