Traveling to Hilton Head.

My wife would like to go to Hilton Head. I would be much happier driving that far if there were a pistol or preferably a 3-gun match on the way. Leaving from the Harrisburg Pa area it appears there are generally two routes; one down 95 and the other down 81 then south through North Carolina. So are there any good matches, hopefully 3-gun but USPSA or IDPA would be something? I don't mind shooting when it is fairly cold and our trip would probably be in Jan or Feb.

Well off the top of my head if you come down 81 and then hit 77 south you have Statesville (3rd Sun) in NC which is pretty much right on the interstate 45 miles North of Charlotte and then when you get down to Columbia, sc on 77 you have Mid-Carolina Rifle Club (2nd Sat), my home club even though I haven't shot a match there in awhile, good people and fun matches. They have hosted the US IPSC Nationals for the past 2 years, so they know how to put on a good match. Then down at Charleston you have Palmento Gun Club (1st Sat). The 95 route you have Raleigh and Ant Hill, a bit off the interstate but it's a beautiful range, probably some others that I'm not aware of. He are the links for SC/NC sections check'em out.

It would probably add about 3 hours to your trip, but the drive from Johnson City, TN down through Asheville, NC and then into SC is really pretty.

Those are really good reply's, it looks like hitting a match one week-end on the way down and another on the return is very do-able.

BTW, the 3-gun matches south of Greenville have been cancelled. I hope that wasn't in your plans.

Your not too far from the range in Summerville, SC just east of Charleston, SC. They have a very nice range and run all sorts of great matches. Jack Suber the SC section coordinator will be glad to help you with more details.
