Patrick Sweeney Posted May 19, 2004 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I've shortened a bunch of 20" barrels to 16.5" and never needed to open the gas port. All the customers so far have been police departments, and they use nothing but XM-193 Federal, which goes over 3,200 fps when the barrels were 20", so gas flow was not a problem. If you were to start feeding them barely-minor loads, they might get picky. But you can adjust by selecting a different powder, a better option than popping a drill into a rifled bore, not one of my favorite operations in life.
