Dwain C. Baer
I was saying "very reliable" not very seriously. I do not believe I'd buy another S&W 1911. Actually, I have heard that statement from more than one person!
midget
Just skimmed this post, so I'm sorry if someone already mentioned this, but I think RIA offers a Commander. I can't remember if the one I had was a 3.5" or a 4", but it had great build quality and shot very well... Iggy42
Now has anyone had any problems with the GI rear sights getting caught on clothing or anything when drawning for concealment? I am a personal fan of Dovetails, but it looks like my budget is only going to get me GI mil-spec sights. Something like a Colt Commander 1991
fred5876r
How about an American Classic Commander (Metro Arms)?: http://metroarms.net/AC I have an ACII full size and it has proven to be an excellent gun for the money. When I bought mine, the hard chrome version was only $74 more.

FLSlim
I settled on the STI Ranger and haven't looked back. They are few and far between used, but if you run across one, take a hard look!
