How to pin a grip safety

did you put anything on the grip safety (( ink , paint )) to show where your pin was touching,or just rely on it marking it by hitting with hammer ((sledge ))

I sharpened a little point on the pin, so it left a good mark, dead center.

New to this concept. I'm guessing the idea behind the pin is that you can remove it later and have a functioning grip safety? Do people just not cut off the trigger engagement tab of the grip safety sometimes?

Yes, pretty easy to undue, but the reason I like it this way is the grip feels really solid, nothing springing/moving around in the web of my hand.
