M1A for 3-gun?

Okay folks, before you get nasty with me, since I'm new at competition, would my Springfield M1A be applicable to a 3-gun competition? Yes, it's heavy, but it's damn accurate.

Whatever rifle you already own is the ideal rifle for you to start out in 3 gun with. AK, M1A, Kel-Tec...whatever. Just bring it out and give it a try. There's so much else to learn that I don't think any rifle will seriously handicap you for a few matches. And there are classes and matches where the m14 reigns supreme, so I really wouldn't worry about it holding you back.

Don't let equipment keep you out of the game.

Shoot what you have, and if you need something, someone will more than likely let you borrow it.

Get out there, find out what works for you, and most importantly, be safe and have fun.
